Once you have installed the plugin, and set up your project by entering your API keys and setting the gamemode, you are ready to run Datasculpt for the first time in your project.
*During first run, Datasculpt will perform a setup process which will mean startup takes longer than normal as it creates a project server and database locally within the project.
!During first run, Datasculpt will generate a new local API key which will be shown in project settings. You do not need to change this and should not manually change it.
Step-By-Step
- Click the Start Up button in the Datasculpt window.
![]()
- On first run Datasculpt will create an embedded database and server for the project so the DS window will be greyed out for a short period of time (~10 seconds).
![]()
- The red light will turn green and the Status at the bottom will read ‘Connecting’
![]()
- You will see the Datasculpt Server appear in the taskbar alongside Unreal.
![]()
- Windows will prompt you to allow connections, on either private or public networks or both.
![]()
!You must allow private and/or public in order for the plugin to work
- You will be logged in to the data hub
![]()
You can now add and access external data sources like log files and APIs in Unreal, but before you add a data source, you need to set up the scene. so the DS behaviours can use the data.
Tips
*Changing maps will disconnect the data hub. The hub must be restarted by clicking the startup button again.
*The data sources are stored within the project folder structure (in DFS folder) so they are kept with each project. This means they can be source controlled even though the plugin itself is stored in the engine.
